Description
Why It’s Done:
The HGH test is performed to:
• Diagnose growth disorders in children (e.g., growth hormone deficiency or gigantism).
• Identify pituitary gland dysfunction in adults.
• Evaluate short stature in children or delayed puberty.
• Monitor treatment with synthetic growth hormone.
• Diagnose acromegaly (excess growth hormone in adults) or other hormone-related disorders.
Preparation:
• Fasting: You may be asked to fast (not eat or drink anything except water) for 10–12 hours before the test.
• Medications: Inform your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you’re taking, as some may affect HGH levels.
• Avoid intense exercise the day before the test, as it can elevate HGH levels temporarily.
• Stress: Try to minimize physical and emotional stress prior to the test, as it can influence results.
