The HSV-1 IgG Serum Test detects IgG antibodies in the blood that are produced in response to a Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection. HSV-1 commonly causes oral herpes, which leads to cold sores or fever blisters around the mouth, but it can also cause genital herpes in some cases.
The presence of IgG antibodies typically indicates a past or long-standing infection, as they appear a few weeks after exposure and remain in the body for life.
