HRCT (High-Resolution Computed Tomography) of the Temporal Bone with Axial, Coronal, and Sagittal views provides highly detailed cross-sectional images of the middle and inner ear structures, including:

• Cochlea & semicircular canals (inner ear structures)
• Ossicles (small bones in the middle ear)
• Facial nerve canal
• Mastoid air cells
• Inner ear vestibular structures

This scan is often used to diagnose:

  • Chronic ear infections (CSOM)
  • Hearing loss or deafness

    Test Preparation

    To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    • Fasting: Not required unless contrast is used.
    • Clothing & Accessories:
      • Wear loose, comfortable clothing.
      • Remove metal objects like earrings, hearing aids, hairpins, or glasses.
    • Contrast Dye (If Required):
      • If contrast is needed, fast for 4–6 hours before the scan.
      • Inform the doctor if you have allergies to contrast dye or iodine.
      • If you have kidney disease, a renal function test may be required.
    • Pregnancy & Radiation Exposure:
      • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
    • Medical History:
      • Inform the doctor about any asthma, diabetes, or kidney disease before contrast administration.
    • Breathing & Movement:
      • Stay still and avoid swallowing or moving during the scan for clear images.

    Scan Duration: Around 10–15 minutes
    Post-Scan: If contrast dye was used, drink plenty of water to flush it out.
