The Gestational OGTT – 3 Samples (75g glucose) is a screening and diagnostic test used to detect gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in pregnant women.
This test involves:
• A fasting blood sample.
• The patient then drinks a solution containing 75 grams of glucose.
• Two additional blood samples are collected at 1 hour and 2 hours after consuming the glucose.
This test helps assess how the body processes glucose during pregnancy and whether glucose levels return to normal within the expected time frame.

    Description

    Why It’s Done:

    This test is commonly recommended:
    • To diagnose gestational diabetes, especially between the 24th and 28th week of pregnancy.
    • To evaluate glucose metabolism in pregnant women who are at higher risk of developing diabetes (e.g., those with obesity, family history of diabetes, or previous GDM).
    • To prevent pregnancy-related complications, such as high birth weight, premature delivery, or preeclampsia.
    • To protect long-term health of both mother and baby by identifying and managing abnormal blood sugar early.
This 75-gram OGTT follows the WHO and IADPSG guidelines for gestational diabetes screening.

    Preparation:
