The Glucose Challenge Test (GCT – 75 grams) is a diagnostic blood test used primarily during pregnancy to screen for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). In this test, the patient consumes a drink containing 75 grams of glucose, and blood sugar levels are measured at fasting, 1 hour, and 2 hours afterward.
It may also be used in non-pregnant individuals as part of the Oral Glucose Tolerance Test (OGTT) for diagnosing type 2 diabetes or impaired glucose tolerance.
