A CT Limited Study of the Liver is a computed tomography (CT) scan specifically focused on the liver to assess its structure, detect abnormalities, and evaluate liver-related conditions.
Purpose of the Scan:

This scan is used to diagnose:

• Liver tumors (benign or malignant)
• Liver cysts or abscesses
• Fatty liver disease (hepatic steatosis)
• Cirrhosis and liver fibrosis
• Enlargement or shrinkage of the liver
• Liver trauma or injury

Depending on the requirement, this scan can be done with or without contrast for enhanced imaging

    Test Preparation

    To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    • Fasting:
      • For a plain scan: No fasting required.
      • For a contrast scan: Fasting for 4–6 hours before the scan is recommended.
    • IV Contrast Injection (If Used):
      • A contrast dye (iodine-based) may be injected to improve visualization of liver structures.
      • Inform your doctor if you have:
      Allergies to iodine or contrast dye
      Kidney disease or diabetes (as contrast can affect kidney function)
      Pregnancy or breastfeeding
    • Metal Object Removal:
      • Remove jewelry, belts, or clothing with metal zippers/buttons near the abdomen to prevent image distortion.
    • Breathing & Positioning Instructions:
      • You will need to lie still on the CT table.
      • The technician may ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds during imaging.
    • Post-Procedure Care:
      • For contrast scans: Drink plenty of water to flush out the contrast dye.
      • For plain scans: No special precautions are needed, and you can resume normal activities immediately.
