CT-Guided FNAC is a minimally invasive procedure in which a fine needle is inserted into a suspicious lump, mass, or lesion under CT scan guidance to collect tissue or fluid samples for diagnosis of infections, tumors, or other abnormalities.

This test is often used for:

• Lung, liver, kidney, or deep-seated tumors
• Lymph node evaluation
• Abnormal growths in soft tissues
• Abscess or cyst drainage

 

 

Description

Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

  • Fasting:
    • Fasting for 4-6 hours may be required, depending on the targeted organ.
  • Blood Tests:
    • Coagulation tests (PT, INR, APTT, Platelet count) may be required before the procedure to check for bleeding risks.
  • Medication Adjustments:
    • If you are on blood thinners (aspirin, warfarin, clopidogrel, etc.), inform your doctor as they may need to be stopped a few days before the procedure.
  • Metal Object Removal:
    • Remove jewelry or metal objects near the procedure site.
  • IV Line & Sedation (If Needed):
    • Some cases may require local anesthesia or mild sedation for comfort.
  • Post-Procedure Care:
    • Rest for a few hours under observation.
    • Avoid heavy activities for 24 hours.
    • If a lung biopsy is done, you may be monitored for any signs of breathing difficulty or pneumothorax (collapsed lung).
    • Drink plenty of fluids if contrast was used.
