A CT Chest (Plain) scan is a computed tomography (CT) scan that provides detailed cross-sectional images of the lungs, heart, ribs, blood vessels, and other structures in the chest.
This scan is used to diagnose and evaluate:

  • Lung infections (pneumonia, tuberculosis, COVID-19 complications, etc.)
  • Lung diseases (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease – COPD, interstitial lung disease, fibrosis, etc.)
  • Lung cancer screening & tumor evaluation
  • Pulmonary embolism (blood clots in the lungs – for contrast CT scans)
  • Rib fractures or chest injuries
  • Pneumothorax (collapsed lung)
  • Heart and major blood vessel abnormalities
  • Pleural effusion (fluid buildup in the lungs)
  • Lymph node enlargement (infection, cancer, or inflammation-related issues)

A CT Chest (Plain) scan is performed without contrast dye, which means it primarily evaluates lung and bone structures. If blood vessels, tumors, or infections need detailed assessment, a CT Chest with Contrast may be recommended.
