The Cobalt – Blood Test measures the level of cobalt, a naturally occurring metal, in the bloodstream. Cobalt is an essential trace element, mainly found as a component of vitamin B12 (cobalamin), which is vital for red blood cell production and neurological function.
However, excessive cobalt exposure—especially from metal-on-metal hip implants, industrial settings, or supplements—can lead to cobalt toxicity, which may cause serious health effects.
This test quantifies cobalt levels in the blood and helps evaluate potential overexposure or poisoning.
