Why It’s Done:
Your doctor may recommend this test to:
• Help diagnose or monitor Wilson’s disease.
• Evaluate copper deficiency or copper overload.
• Investigate liver function and related disorders.
• Assess unexplained neurological or psychiatric symptoms.
• Monitor patients with suspected malabsorption syndromes or nutritional deficiencies.
Preparation:
• Fasting is not usually required for this test.
• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking, especially those containing copper, estrogen, or birth control pills, as these can affect ceruloplasmin levels.
• No other specific preparation is needed unless advised by your healthcare provider.
