Description
Why It’s Done:
The CD45 – Percent Test is used for several key purposes:
• Evaluate the overall distribution of white blood cells in conditions such as autoimmune diseases, immune deficiencies, and inflammatory disorders.
• Diagnose hematological conditions, such as leukemias or lymphomas, where the presence or absence of CD45+ cells can help differentiate between types of cancerous and non-cancerous white blood cells.
• Monitor immune system health in patients undergoing treatments like chemotherapy, immunosuppressive therapy, or stem cell transplants, which can affect the levels of CD45+ cells.
• Assess immune system function in diseases like HIV/AIDS, where the number and distribution of immune cells are essential for evaluating disease progression or immune suppression.
• Distinguish between different types of leukocytes for more detailed immune system profiling and diagnostic accuracy.
Preparation:
• No fasting or special preparation is required for this test.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any recent illnesses, medications, or treatments that might affect white blood cell counts, particularly immunosuppressive drugs or chemotherapy.
• A blood sample will be collected from a vein in your arm, and the analysis will be performed using flow cytometry.
