Why It’s Done
This test is commonly used to:
• Evaluate B cell populations in the immune system.
• Diagnose and monitor B-cell-related conditions, such as:
o Non-Hodgkin lymphoma
o Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
o Autoimmune diseases involving B cell dysfunction
• Monitor response to therapies that target CD20-positive cells, such as:
o Rituximab
o Obinutuzumab
• Assess immune reconstitution following bone marrow or stem cell transplantation.
• Investigate immunodeficiency disorders or recurrent infections.
Preparation
• Fasting: Not required.
• Medications: Inform your doctor about any ongoing medications, especially immunosuppressive or B-cell-targeting therapies.
• Time of day: The test can be performed at any time.
• Hydration: Drink water before the blood draw to facilitate the process
