Why It’s Done
1. Monitor Breast Cancer Treatment
• To check how well treatment is working in people already diagnosed with breast cancer.
• To detect any recurrence of breast cancer after treatment.
2. Assess Disease Progression
• Helps evaluate if breast cancer is advancing or spreading.
3. Support Diagnosis (Less Common)
• Sometimes used along with other tests to support breast cancer diagnosis but is not definitive alone.
Preparation
1. Fasting
• No fasting is required for the CA 15-3 test.
2. Medications
• Inform your doctor about any medications or supplements you are taking.
3. Sample Collection
• A blood sample is taken from a vein, usually in your arm.
• The procedure is quick and minimally invasive
