Why It’s Done
This test is ordered to:
1. Diagnose Lyme Disease
• To detect past or ongoing infection by Borrelia burgdorferi, especially in patients with symptoms like rash, joint pain, fatigue, or neurological signs.
2. Confirm Infection Stage
• IgG antibodies appear later in infection, helping to confirm chronic or later-stage Lyme disease.
3. Monitor Response to Treatment
• To help evaluate effectiveness of antibiotic therapy over time.
Preparation
1. Fasting
• No fasting is required.
2. Medications
• Inform your healthcare provider about any antibiotics or immunosuppressive drugs you are taking.
3. Sample Collection
• A blood sample is drawn from a vein, usually in your arm.
• The procedure is quick and minimally invasive.
