Why It’s Done:
This test is performed to:
• Identify bacterial infections when symptoms suggest systemic infection or sepsis
• Diagnose infections caused by bacteria that release identifiable antigens into the blood
• Aid in early treatment decisions and monitoring of therapeutic response
• Support diagnosis in cases where cultures are negative or difficult to obtain
• Help guide appropriate antibiotic therapy
Preparation:
• No special preparation such as fasting is typically required.
• A blood sample will be drawn from a vein.
