Why It’s Done:
This test is typically ordered when a healthcare provider suspects:
• Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH)
• Chronic liver disease of unknown cause
• Elevated liver enzymes without clear explanation
• To help differentiate AIH from other causes of hepatitis or liver dysfunction
ASMA may also be tested as part of a liver autoimmune panel along with:
• ANA (Antinuclear Antibodies)
• LKM (Liver-Kidney Microsomal Antibodies)
• SLA (Soluble Liver Antigen Antibodies)
Preparation:
• No special preparation is required.
• A blood sample is collected from a vein.
• Inform your doctor about:
o Any medications or autoimmune symptoms
