Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Detect recent or ongoing arsenic exposure or poisoning
• Screen individuals in high-risk environments (e.g., occupational exposure, contaminated water areas)
• Monitor arsenic levels during or after treatment for toxicity
• Assist in diagnosing symptoms suggestive of arsenic toxicity such as skin changes, neuropathy, or gastrointestinal issues
Preparation:
• No special preparation is usually required.
• Avoid seafood and other arsenic-rich foods for 48-72 hours before the test to prevent false elevations.
• Collect a clean, midstream urine sample in a sterile container provided by the lab.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or supplements you are taking
