Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Help diagnose celiac disease, particularly in patients with IgA deficiency where IgA-based tests might be unreliable
• Evaluate symptoms related to gluten intolerance, such as diarrhea, bloating, or abdominal pain
• Monitor gluten exposure and response to a gluten-free diet in patients diagnosed with gluten-related disorders
• Assist in the differential diagnosis of other gastrointestinal or autoimmune conditions
Preparation:
• No special preparation is required.
• Blood is drawn from a vein, usually in the arm.
• It’s important to maintain a gluten-containing diet before the test to avoid false-negative results.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or underlying health conditions.
• Fasting is not necessary.
