Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Diagnose recent or previous Group A Streptococcal infections, especially when throat cultures are negative or unavailable
• Help confirm complications of streptococcal infections such as rheumatic fever or post-streptococcal glomerulonephritis
• Support diagnosis when patients show symptoms like joint pain, fever, heart inflammation, or kidney problems following a sore throat or skin infection
Preparation:
• No special preparation is needed.
• Blood is drawn from a vein, typically in the arm.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or recent infections.
• Fasting is not required.
