Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Evaluate abnormal androgen levels in conditions such as hirsutism, virilization, or early puberty
• Diagnose and monitor adrenal or ovarian tumors or disorders
• Assess causes of infertility, menstrual irregularities, or ambiguous genitalia
• Monitor hormone therapy or treatment for endocrine disorders
Preparation:
• No special preparation is usually needed.
• Blood sample is collected from a vein, typically from the arm.
• It is advisable to inform the healthcare provider about any medications, as some drugs may affect hormone levels.
• Fasting is generally not required.
