Description
Why It’s Done
This test is ordered to:
• Assess aluminium toxicity in patients exposed to aluminium through occupational or environmental sources
• Monitor patients undergoing dialysis, who are at risk of aluminium accumulation due to impaired kidney function
• Investigate symptoms such as bone pain, muscle weakness, confusion, or anemia that may be related to aluminium toxicity
• Evaluate the cause of unexplained neurological or bone disorders in patients with potential aluminium exposure
Preparation for the Test
• Fasting: Usually not required.
• Medications: Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or supplements you are taking, as some may affect aluminium levels.
• Avoid contamination: Since aluminium is present in many products, ensure the blood sample is collected using equipment free from aluminium contamination.
• Follow any specific instructions given by your healthcare provider
