Description
Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose allergy to cow dander in individuals who experience symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, or asthma triggered by exposure to cows or environments where cows are present.
• To identify environmental allergens contributing to respiratory or skin allergy symptoms.
• To guide allergen avoidance strategies and treatment plans including medications or immunotherapy.
• To evaluate allergic causes in people who live in or frequently visit farm environments or have occupational exposure to cows.
Preparation:
• For blood tests:
– No fasting or special preparation required.
– Continue medications unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider.
• For skin tests:
– Avoid antihistamines for 3 to 7 days before testing to prevent interference with results (consult your doctor).
– Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
– Wear clothing that allows easy access to the skin, such as short sleeves
