The ACE test measures the level of angiotensin-converting enzyme in the blood. ACE is an enzyme that helps regulate blood pressure by converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a substance that narrows blood vessels. Elevated ACE levels can be a marker for certain diseases, particularly sarcoidosis, where ACE is produced in excess by granulomas (inflammatory cells).
