CT Enteroclysis is a specialized computed tomography (CT) imaging test used to evaluate the small intestine in detail. It helps diagnose conditions such as:

• Crohn’s disease and other inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD)
• Small bowel tumors or strictures
• Obstructions, malabsorption syndromes, and fistulas

This test involves the introduction of a contrast medium (liquid) directly into the small intestine via a nasoduodenal tube (inserted through the nose into the duodenum) before performing a CT scan.

    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:

    • Fasting:
You must fast for 6-8 hours before the procedure (no food or drink).
    • Bowel Preparation:
A laxative or bowel cleansing solution (such as polyethylene glycol) may be prescribed the night before to clear the intestines.
    • Placement of Nasoduodenal Tube:
A thin tube is inserted through the nose into the duodenum (first part of the small intestine) to administer the contrast liquid (methylcellulose or barium).
This helps expand the small intestine for better visualization.
    • Contrast Injection:
Intravenous (IV) contrast dye may also be used to enhance blood vessel imaging.
Inform the doctor if you have kidney disease, contrast allergies, or are pregnant.
    • Clothing & Metal Objects:
Wear loose clothing without metal (zippers, buttons, jewellery).
    • Post-Procedure Care:
You may experience mild bloating or diarrhea due to the contrast.
Drink plenty of fluids to help flush the contrast from your system.
