    Test Preparation

To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline

    • Diet & Fasting (1–2 Days Before the Scan)
      Clear Liquid Diet:
Drink only clear fluids (water, broth, tea, black coffee, apple juice, etc.)
Avoid red or purple drinks (they can mimic blood in the scan).
No solid food for at least 24 hours before the scan.
    • Bowel Preparation (Laxatives or Enema)
A strong laxative (like polyethylene glycol or bisacodyl) is usually prescribed to fully cleanse the colon.
Some patients may need a bowel-cleansing enema before the scan.
Drink plenty of fluids to avoid dehydration.
    • Before the Scan (Day of the Test)
Fasting: No food or drinks (except water) for at least 4–6 hours before the test.
Clothing: Wear loose, comfortable clothing and avoid metal objects (zippers, jewelry, piercings).
    • Medical History: Inform the doctor if you:
      • Are pregnant or suspect pregnancy.
      • Have a history of bowel disease or previous surgeries.
      • Have allergies to medications or contrast dye (if contrast is required).
    • During the Procedure
A small tube is inserted into the rectum to gently inflate the colon with air or carbon dioxide (for better imaging).
You may be asked to change positions (back, sides, or stomach) during the scan.
The scan usually takes 10–20 minutes.
    • After the Procedure
Mild bloating or gas may occur but usually resolves quickly.
Normal diet can be resumed unless otherwise advised.
Results are typically available within a few days.
