CT Aortic Angiography (Plain)

A CT Aortic Angiography (Plain) is a non-contrast CT scan used to capture detailed images of the aorta, the largest artery in the body, which carries blood from the heart to the rest of the body.
This scan helps evaluate:

  • Aortic aneurysms – abnormal bulging or widening of the aorta
  • Aortic dissections – tears in the inner layer of the aortic wall
  • Atherosclerosis (plaque buildup) – narrowing or hardening of the aortic walls
  • Congenital aortic abnormalities – birth-related defects in the aorta
  • Aortic trauma or injuries – damage due to accidents or surgery

Since no contrast dye is used, the ability to detect fine details of the blood flow and vessel walls may be limited. However, this scan is useful for patients with kidney disease, contrast allergies, or other health conditions that prevent contrast use.
