    Why It’s Done:
    This test is used to assess:
    • Kidney function
    • Protein metabolism
    • Nutritional status It is often ordered to help evaluate the cause of kidney problems, dehydration, or malnutrition, and to monitor patients receiving total parenteral nutrition (TPN) or those with liver or kidney diseases.

    Sample Collection:
    • Urine is collected over a 24-hour period.
    • Patients are instructed to discard the first morning urine, then collect all subsequent urine for the next 24 hours, including the first urine of the following morning.
