Description
Why It’s Done:
This panel is performed to:
• Confirm active tuberculosis or NTM infection
• Diagnose pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB (e.g., pleural, lymphatic, or CNS)
• Detect low bacterial load infections missed by microscopy
• Distinguish between TB and other respiratory conditions
• Support early treatment initiation and reduce transmission
• Assess TB in immunocompromised patients (e.g., HIV-positive individuals)
Preparation:
• No special fasting or preparation is typically needed.
• Samples collected depend on infection site (e.g., sputum, pleural fluid, tissue biopsy).
• Ensure samples are collected in sterile containers and transported promptly.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any current medications or prior TB treatment.
