Why It’s Done:
The HLA DQ Typing test is performed to:
1. Assess Risk for Autoimmune Diseases:
o Certain HLA-DQ types are linked to diseases like Type 1 Diabetes, Celiac Disease, and Rheumatoid Arthritis.
2. Organ and Stem Cell Transplantation:
o To ensure compatibility between donors and recipients, reducing the risk of transplant rejection.
3. Paternity Testing and Genetic Studies:
o Sometimes used in forensic or research settings.
4. Diagnosis of Rare Immune Disorders:
o Helps identify genetic predisposition.
Preparation:
• Fasting:
o Not required. You can eat and drink normally.
• Sample Collection:
o A blood sample is drawn, usually from a vein in the arm.
• Medications:
o No special restrictions, but inform your healthcare provider about any treatments you are undergoing
