Why It’s Done:
The test is performed to:
1. Determine Genetic Sex:
o Confirm chromosomal sex in cases of ambiguous genitalia or intersex conditions.
2. Diagnose Genetic Disorders:
o Assist in the diagnosis of conditions like Turner Syndrome or Klinefelter Syndrome.
3. Research and Forensic Uses:
o Used in some genetic studies or forensic identification.
Preparation:
• Fasting:
o Not required. Normal eating and drinking are allowed.
• Before the Test:
o Avoid eating, drinking, smoking, or chewing gum for at least 30 minutes before sample collection to ensure a clean sample.
• Oral Hygiene:
o Brush your teeth or rinse your mouth before the test if instructed.
• Sample Collection:
o The healthcare provider will gently scrape the inside of the cheek to collect cells
