Test Preparation
To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:
- Fasting:
Avoid eating for 4–6 hours before the scan, especially if IV contrast is used.
Drinking clear fluids is usually allowed unless instructed otherwise. - Hydration:
Drink plenty of water before the test to aid kidney function and help flush out contrast after the scan. - Allergy Precautions:
Inform your doctor if you have allergies to iodine-based contrast dye or shellfish.
You may be given anti-allergy medication if necessary. - Medical Considerations:
If you have kidney disease, diabetes, or thyroid disorders, notify your doctor, as contrast dye may affect kidney function.
If taking metformin (diabetes medication), you may need to stop it before and after the test. - Pregnancy Precautions:
If you are pregnant or suspect pregnancy, notify your doctor since CT scans involve radiation. - Clothing & Accessories:
Wear loose clothing and remove metal objects (belts, jewelry, piercings) to avoid image distortion.
