2. Differentiate Cause of Diarrhea
• To confirm if C. difficile is the cause of diarrhea, distinguishing it from other infections or causes.
3. Guide Treatment
• Positive test results help doctors choose appropriate antibiotic therapy.
Preparation
1. Sample Collection
• Collect a fresh stool sample following your healthcare provider’s instructions.
• Use the container provided by the lab.
• Avoid contamination with urine or water.
2. Diet and Medication
• No special dietary restrictions are usually needed.
• Inform your healthcare provider if you are on antibiotics or other medications.
3. Timing
• Provide the sample as soon as possible after collection, ideally within a few hours.
