Aspergillus Antibodies – Igm

2,000.00

The Aspergillus Antibodies – IgM test is a blood test used to detect IgM antibodies produced by the immune system in response to a recent or active infection with Aspergillus species — a type of fungus commonly found in the environment.
While Aspergillus exposure is common, the IgM test is particularly useful in identifying acute or early-stage aspergillosis, especially in immunocompromised individuals. Elevated IgM levels can suggest a recent immune response to the fungus, although the test is typically used alongside other diagnostic tools.

    Description

    Why It’s Done:

This test may be ordered when a healthcare provider suspects a recent or acute Aspergillus infection, especially in people with:
    • Weakened immune systems (e.g., cancer patients, transplant recipients, HIV/AIDS)
    • Sudden onset of respiratory symptoms (fever, cough, shortness of breath)
    • Risk factors for invasive aspergillosis
    The test helps:
    • Support a diagnosis of early or invasive aspergillosis
    • Distinguish between recent and past exposure
    • Monitor the immune response in high-risk patients
⚠️ Note: IgM levels may decline quickly as the infection progresses, so results should be interpreted with caution and in conjunction with other tests (e.g., IgG, galactomannan antigen, PCR, imaging).

    Preparation:

    • No special preparation is required for this test.
    • A blood sample is collected via a standard venipuncture.
    • Inform your doctor about:
o Any ongoing infections or immune-related conditions
o Any medications you are taking, particularly immunosuppressants
