To ensure accurate results, follow these preparation guideline:
- Fasting : Avoid eating for 4–6 hours before the scan, especially if IV or oral contrast is used.
- Hydration : Drink water unless instructed otherwise to help flush out the contrast after the scan.
- Allergy Precautions : Inform your doctor if you have allergies to iodine-based contrast dye or shellfish.
- Medical Considerations:
Patients with kidney disease, diabetes, or thyroid disorders should inform their doctor, as contrast agents can affect kidney function.
If taking metformin (for diabetes), you may need to stop it before and after the scan. - Pregnancy Precautions:
If pregnant or suspect pregnancy, notify your doctor since CT scans use radiation. - Clothing & Accessories:
Wear loose-fitting clothes and remove jewelry, metal objects, or electronic devices to prevent image interference.
