Description
Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Detect recent arsenic poisoning or exposure
• Assess the level of arsenic in people with symptoms of arsenic toxicity (such as abdominal pain, vomiting, neurological symptoms)
• Evaluate individuals with known or suspected environmental or occupational arsenic exposure
• Guide treatment decisions in cases of acute arsenic toxicity
Preparation:
• No special preparation is generally required.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications, supplements, or foods you have recently consumed, especially seafood, which can affect arsenic levels.
• Blood is drawn via venipuncture from a vein, usually in the arm.
• Avoid exposure to arsenic sources before the test if possible, to ensure accurate results.
