Why It’s Done:
This test is ordered to:
• Screen for celiac disease or gluten sensitivity
• Evaluate symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, or malabsorption
• Monitor adherence to a gluten-free diet in diagnosed celiac patients
• Assist in differential diagnosis of other gastrointestinal disorders
Preparation:
• No special preparation is usually required.
• Blood is drawn from a vein, typically in the arm.
• It is important to be on a gluten-containing diet before testing to avoid false-negative results.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications or conditions.
• Fasting is not required.
