Androstenedione

2,000.00

The Androstenedione test measures the level of androstenedione, a steroid hormone, in the blood. Androstenedione is a precursor hormone that is converted by the body into testosterone and estrogen. It is produced in the adrenal glands, ovaries (in females), and testes (in males).
This test is usually done through a simple blood draw and is analyzed using techniques such as immunoassay or liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) for more accurate results.

    • Ambiguous genitalia (at birth)
    • Evaluation of congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH)
    In men:
    • Evaluation of testicular function
    • Supportive test in infertility or hormone imbalance investigations

    Preparation for the Test

    • Fasting: Generally not required, but your doctor may advise otherwise in some cases.
    • Timing: The test may be scheduled at a specific time in the menstrual cycle for women (typically early in the cycle) for accurate results.
    • Medications: Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, or hormone therapies, as these can affect hormone levels.
