Anc / Absolute Neutrophil Count

200.00

The ANC (Absolute Neutrophil Count) test is a blood test that measures the number of neutrophils in the blood. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell that play a key role in the body’s immune defense by fighting off infections, especially bacterial and fungal infections.
The ANC is calculated from a complete blood count (CBC) with differential by multiplying the total white blood cell count by the percentage of neutrophils (including both mature and immature forms like bands).

    Why It’s Done

The ANC test is primarily used to:
    • Assess immune system function, especially in people undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy
    • Monitor bone marrow function
    • Evaluate risk of infection
    • Diagnose and monitor disorders such as:
    o Neutropenia (low neutrophil count)
    o Bone marrow disorders
    o Autoimmune diseases
    o Severe infections
    o Leukemia
Low ANC (Neutropenia): May increase the risk of infection
High ANC: May indicate infection, inflammation, stress, or leukemia

    Preparation for the Test

    • Fasting: Not required. You can eat and drink as usual unless advised otherwise.
    • Medications: Inform your doctor about all medications, supplements, or recent treatments (e.g., chemotherapy), as they can affect the neutrophil count.
    • No special preparation is typically needed
