Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose allergies to house dust mites in individuals with symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes, coughing, wheezing, or eczema.
• To identify indoor allergens contributing to allergic rhinitis, asthma, or atopic dermatitis.
• To help develop personalized treatment plans, including allergen avoidance measures and allergy immunotherapy.
• To monitor allergy status and response to treatment over time.
Preparation:
• For blood tests:
– No fasting or special preparation is needed.
– Continue all medications unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider.
• For skin tests:
– Avoid antihistamines for 3 to 7 days before the test to prevent interference with results (consult your doctor).
– Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
– Wear clothing that allows easy access to the skin, such as short sleeves.
