Description
Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose allergy to ragweed pollen in individuals experiencing symptoms such as sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy eyes, coughing, wheezing, or asthma during ragweed pollen season.
• To identify environmental allergens responsible for seasonal allergies.
• To guide allergen avoidance measures and treatment plans including medications or immunotherapy.
• To evaluate allergic triggers in patients with seasonal respiratory symptoms.
Preparation:
• For blood tests:
– No fasting or special preparation is needed.
– Continue medications unless otherwise advised by your healthcare provider.
• For skin tests:
– Avoid antihistamines for 3 to 7 days before testing as they may affect results (consult your doctor).
– Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
– Wear clothing that allows easy access to the skin, such as short sleeves.
