Description
Why It’s Done:
• To diagnose allergy to Aspergillus mold in individuals experiencing respiratory symptoms like wheezing, coughing, shortness of breath, or worsening asthma.
• To evaluate suspected allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA), a lung condition caused by hypersensitivity to Aspergillus.
• To identify mold allergens contributing to chronic sinusitis or allergic respiratory conditions.
• To guide treatment and management including allergen avoidance and medications.
Preparation:
• For blood tests:
– No fasting or special preparation needed.
– Continue medications unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.
• For skin tests:
– Avoid antihistamines for 3 to 7 days prior to testing as they can interfere with results (consult your doctor).
– Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
– Wear clothing that allows easy access to the skin, such as short sleeves.
