Why It’s Done:
• To check if the tuberculosis bacteria are sensitive or resistant to Ciprofloxacin and Ofloxacin.
• To help design effective treatment regimens, especially in cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) or extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB).
• To monitor the effectiveness of current treatment and make adjustments if resistance is detected.
• To prevent the spread of resistant tuberculosis strains by ensuring effective therapy.
Preparation:
• No specific patient preparation is typically needed.
• The test is done on clinical samples such as sputum, tissue, or other specimens obtained from the patient.
• Follow any sample collection instructions given by your healthcare provider to ensure the sample’s quality.
• Inform the lab if you are currently taking anti-tuberculosis medications, as this can affect the results.
