Description
Why It’s Done:
• To detect if the tuberculosis bacteria are susceptible or resistant to Rifampicin.
• To identify cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), as resistance to Rifampicin often indicates MDR-TB.
• To guide appropriate and effective tuberculosis treatment regimens.
• To monitor response to therapy and make adjustments if resistance develops.
Preparation:
• No special preparation is generally required.
• The test is performed on clinical samples like sputum or tissue obtained from the patient.
• Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for sample collection carefully.
• Inform the laboratory if you are currently undergoing anti-tuberculosis treatment, as it may affect test results.
