Description
Why It’s Done:
• To help diagnose and monitor sarcoidosis, a condition characterized by abnormal collections of inflammatory cells.
• To evaluate other granulomatous diseases such as tuberculosis or certain fungal infections.
• To monitor disease activity and response to treatment in sarcoidosis patients.
• To assist in diagnosing other conditions like Gaucher disease or certain liver diseases.
Preparation:
• No special preparation or fasting is generally required.
• Inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking, as some drugs (like ACE inhibitors) can affect test results.
• Blood is drawn from a vein, usually from the arm.
• Follow any additional instructions provided by your healthcare team.
