EMG (Electromyography) is a diagnostic test used to assess the electrical activity of muscles and the nerves that control them.

When EMG is performed on all four limbs, it means the test is done on both arms and both legs—evaluating multiple muscles in the shoulders, arms, hands, thighs, legs, and feet.

    Test Preparation

To make sure the test goes smoothly, here’s how you should prepare:
     Clothing:
    • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes (short-sleeved shirt and shorts are ideal).
    • You may be asked to wear a hospital gown during the test for easy access to arms and legs.
    Skin Care:
    • Take a shower or bath before your appointment to clean the skin.
    • Do not apply lotions, oils, or creams on your arms or legs on the day of the test—these can interfere with electrode contact.
     Medications:
    • Take your regular medications unless advised otherwise.
    • Inform your doctor or technician if you:
o Are taking blood thinners (e.g., aspirin, warfarin)
    o Have a bleeding disorder
o Are on muscle relaxants or nerve-related medications
    Implanted Devices:
    • Let the technician know if you have any pacemakers, defibrillators, or other implanted devices.
     Food & Drink:
    • You can eat and drink as usual before the test. No fasting is required.
