    Test Preparation

Generally, no special preparation is needed for this type of X-ray. However, here’s what to expect:

    Before the Test:
    • Clothing: You may be asked to wear a hospital gown. Remove any clothing, accessories, or jewelry near the leg area.
    • Pregnancy: Notify the radiologist or technician if you are pregnant or may be pregnant.
    • Previous Implants: Let the technician know if you have metal plates, screws, or prosthetics in your leg.

     During the Test:
    • You will be positioned lying down or standing, depending on the equipment used and the area to be imaged.
    • For the AP view, your leg will be kept straight with the X-ray beam going front to back.
    • For the Lateral view, your leg will be turned to the side, or you may be asked to lie on your side.
    • Stay very still during each image to avoid blurring.
