An X-Ray Paranasal Sinuses (PNS) LAT is a lateral (side view) X-ray of the paranasal sinuses—the air-filled cavities located around the nose and eyes. This test helps in visualizing the frontal, maxillary, ethmoid, and sphenoid sinuses to detect abnormalities such as:

• Sinusitis (inflammation or infection of the sinuses)
• Sinus blockages or fluid levels
• Nasal polyps or growths
• Deviated nasal septum
• Fractures involving sinus walls

Description

Test Preparation

• No fasting or special preparation is required.
• Remove all metal objects from the head and neck area:
o Eyeglasses
o Earrings, nose rings, or facial piercings
o Hairpins or any other metallic accessories
• Inform the radiographer if:
o You are pregnant or may be pregnant
o You have had recent facial surgeries or trauma
