Test Preparation
Generally, no special preparation is needed. Just follow these common guidelines:
• Clothing: Wear comfortable clothing or you may be asked to change into a hospital gown.
• Remove Metal Items: Take off any jewelry, eyeglasses, hairpins, or metal objects from the head and neck area.
• Pregnancy: Inform the technician if you are or might be pregnant.
• Medical History: Let the technician know if you’ve had previous neck injuries or limited movement.
During the Test
• You will be asked to stand or sit in a natural, upright position.
• Your head and neck will remain in a neutral position, without tilting forward or backward.
• The technician may take multiple views (lateral and anteroposterior).
• It’s important to stay still while the images are being taken.
• The procedure is quick and painless, typically lasting 10–15 minutes.
After the Test
• You can go back to your normal activities right away.
• A radiologist will interpret the X-ray and your doctor will review the results with you.
