    Description

    Test Preparation

    Generally, no special preparation is needed, but here are standard guidelines:

    • Clothing: You may need to change into a hospital gown.
    • Metal objects: Remove jewelry, hearing aids, hairpins, or anything metallic near the head and neck area.
    • Inform the technician if you have:
    • Neck pain or stiffness
    • A history of neck injury
    • Are or might be pregnant
    In some cases, your doctor may instruct you to avoid sudden neck movements before the test if instability is suspected.
    During the Test
    • You’ll be asked to stand or sit upright.
    • The neck will be gently positioned in extension (tilted backward) to capture the desired view.
    • You must remain still while the X-ray is taken.
    • The process is quick and painless, usually taking 10–15 minutes.
    After the Test
    • You can return to your normal routine immediately.
    • A radiologist will analyze the images and send a report to your doctor, who will discuss the results with you.
